GCC chief: Gulf-Jordan trade exchange hits USD 36 bln

AMMAN, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi said on Wednesday that GCC-Jordanian trade exchange had edged up to over USD 36 billion between 2020 and 2023.
Al-Budaiwi announced the figure during a Gulf-Jordanian investment conference, organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of GCC Chambers, with Kuwaiti Ambassador in Jordan Hamad Al-Marri attending.
He added that the GCC member countries seek to promote trade facilitation and spur potential to develop and maximize trade exchange and bolster cooperation and investment in service trade, e-commerce, financial technology, tourism and digital trade.
Jordanian Investment Minister Mothanna Gharaibeh said that his country is keen on giving Gulf investment due care, and facilitate and stimulate them in Jordan, particularly regarding projects of green hydrogen, water, transport, fun cities and highly-value industries.
He added that Gulf investments make up around 40 percent of Jordan's overall foreign direct investments covering such strategic sectors as industry, information technology, energy, farming, tourism and financial services.
For his part, Chairman of the Federation of GCC Chambers Faisal Al-Rawas said service trade plays a significant role in bilateral relations between the GCC member countries and Jordan, citing Gulf tourists and students in Jordan annually.
He added that more than 780,000 Jordanians are working in the GCC countries, sending their homeland money transfers worth more than USD 3.3 billion every year. (end) amn.mt
