Qatar welcomes Lebanon ceasefire

DOHA, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Qatar on Wednesday welcomed the U.S.-facilitated ceasefire in Lebanon, which took effect in the early hours of Wednesday, urging a similar agreement to end the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
In a press release, the Qatari Foreign Ministry called on all parties involved to stick to the agreement, halt military operations and fully carry out UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701, hoping that the agreement would culminate in regional peace and stability.
The ministry echoed Qatar's unwavering support for Lebanon's unity and territorial integrity, speaking highly of the efforts of the U.S. and France in this regard.
U.S. President Joe Biden said late Tuesday that Lebanon and the Israeli occupation had accepted a U.S. proposal to end "the devastating conflict" in Lebanon.
Under the deal, the fighting across the Lebanese border will end, and this ceasefire is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.
The ceasefire in Lebanon came into effect early Wednesday. (end) sss.mt
