WASHINGTON, Nov 11 (KUNA) -- US President-elect Donald Trump chosen on Monday Elise Stefanik, House Republican Conference Chair, to be his ambassador to the UN, one of the most important political posts in the country's foreign affairs.
The move needs the consent of the Senate, which takes charge of the appointments of ministers, ambassadors and other officials.
Stefanik, who has long been one of Mr. Trump's most loyal allies in the House, is a member of the Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
"Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter," Trump said in a statement on Monday.
Yesterday, Trump announced appointing Tom Homan to be in charge of the nation's borders.
"I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation's Borders ("The Border Czar"), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security," Trump said in a post on Truth Social late Sunday.
There is "nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders" and that Homan "will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin." he noted.
Trump will take power on January 20, 2025 after winning the country's presidential election. (end)
