Secretary Blinken reaffirms commitment to building "digital solidarity" with US partners

WASHINGTON, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken assured on Wednesday that the United States is committed to building "digital solidarity" with Washington's partners for a "vibrant, open, and secure technological future." Blinken's remarks came in a speech titled "U.S Diplomacy for a New Era," delivered to the Foreign Service Institute, presenting themes that have developed during his tenure in office, as well as areas that need to be improved.
"As geopolitical competition is underway to shape a new era in international affairs, long standing challenges remain: conflicts, terrorism, political instability," he said.
"We see this around the world from Middle East to Sudan to Venezuela, the world is more combustible than at any other point," he added.
"The United States remains the partner of choice for federal government, private sector universities, technologists, philanthropies. It's in our interests to team up with our counterparts abroad to accomplish more together," added Blinken.
He pointed out that the US established the Bureau of Cybersecurity and the office of the Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technology, brining talent to these areas to ensure that the US and its partners retain an edge in those fields.
He added that US diplomacy prioritized promoting digital freedom, protecting sensitive technology, and making critical supply chains more resilient.
Blinken stated that the US is committed to building "digital solidarity," valuing working with like-minded partners for a vibrant and secure technological future.
He stressed that the US launched with the Group of Seven (G7) the partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, to access some USD 600 billion for high-quality infrastructure that will improve many aspects.
He added that US diplomats are shaping norms around emerging tech like artificial intelligence, enlisting leading companies to make commitments to safety, security, and trustworthiness, to win the support of all United Nations states on the General Assembly resolution on A.I.
He added that the US is building technology around quantum technology, with capabilities that exceed powerful supercomputers. (end) rsr.sas
