Jordan FM: Israeli occupation driving area to brink of regional war

AMMAN, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- Jordanian Foreign Ministry Ayman Al-Safadi warned that the Israeli occupation is driving the area to the brink of regional war.
Al-Safadi sounded these warnings at a press conference held on Wednesday following meeting of the Arab Islamic ministerial committee tasked with international movement to end the war on Gaza.
He mentioned that meeting participants all affirmed necessity of putting an end to the aggression on Gaza Strip and de-escalating the situation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
He indicated that terminating the peace treaty will not serve neither Jordan or Palestine, asserting that Jordan is employing the agreement to protect its interests and aid the Palestinian people.
The meeting, held in the capital Amman, is held prior to the United Nations General Assembly to coordinate Arab position to garner international support for the Palestinian cause, he clarified.
The Foreign Minister went on to add that they'll be heading to the General Assembly with a clear positions and requirements, and will be holding a number of meetings, to push for recognizing the state of Palestine and attaining full UN membership.
Al-Safadi questioned how could the world stand by and allow the extremist occupation government violate international and humanitarian rules and infringe upon the rights of the Palestinian people.
The time has come to take practical steps towards holding occupation practices responsible, practices that have undermined all humanitarian values and international court of justice rulings, he affirmed.
The coordination meeting was chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and representatives of member countries of Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, Indonesia, Nigeria and Bahrain as well as Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary Generals. (end) amn.aai
