Germany, Britain to examine London's possible rapprochement with EU

BERLIN, July 7 (KUNA) -- The German and British governments are pondering prospects of rapprochement between London and the European Union, the German Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry made the declaration on X on the occasion of a current visit by the new British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on his first external mission since the new British government took the helm of power.
Germany is studying with the British government means of rapprochement between the United Kingdom and the EU, said the foreign affairs department.
It added that the foreign affairs ministers of Germany and Britain would discuss during their meeting providing more "effective" aid to Ukraine, ahead of the NATO summit due in Washington on Tuesday.
Britain has witnessed birth of a new government after the Conservatives lost in nationwide elections vis a vis the Labor Party's camp.
Observers have raised questions about whether London under the Labor Party rule would re-examine Brexit, but Party leaders have cast aside such a dramatic prospect, acknowledging the desire to make rapprochement with the EU states and seek understanding on some issues of common interest, individually.
