RSF attacks village in central Sudan, killing 17 civilians

KHARTOUM, June 22 (KUNA) -- At least 17 people were killed when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) opened fire on residents of Aseer village, south of the central Gezira State, a local resistance committee said on Saturday.
In a press statement, the Wadi Madani Resistance Committee said that dozens others were injured in the assault.
It added that the gruesome offensive caused massive exodus of the frightened villagers from their homes.
On June 5, the RSF carried out an attack on Wad Al Noura village, also in Gezira State, resulting in the killing of about 140 people and global condemnations.
The conflict, which began in April 2023 between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced more than nine million people -- the world's worst internal displacement crisis -- according to the United Nations. (end) mam.ibi
