Spain, Qatar express desire to broaden cooperation

MADRID, June 21 (KUNA) -- Spain and Qatar on Friday expressed their common desire to broaden bilateral relations and cooperation in new arenas, as they held the first round of the strategic dialogue.
The strategic dialogue is an intersection station for promoting the bilateral relations between the two countries, said the visiting Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at a news conference with his Spanish counterpart Jose Albares.
Qatar through this dialogue is looking forward to deepening the cooperation in diplomacy, defense, security, energy, investments, commerce, education, sports tourism, culture, sciences, and innovation, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman said.
He revealed that Qatari businesses in the European country grew, in recent years, to USD 4.27 billion, covering various sectors namely energy, investment, property, finance, and sports.
As to the volume of trade exchanges, it rose by 22 percent per annum between 2020 and 2023, the Qatari premier and foreign minister added.
Qatar is the number-one gas exporter to Spain, he said, also revealing that the number of Spanish companies operating in his country reached 220 in 2023. (end) hnd.rk
