Arab League inks coop. protocol with OIC broadcasting union

CAIRO, April 17 (KUNA) -- The League of Arab States inked a protocol with Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) states broadcasting union on Wednesday, promoting media cooperation.
Signing the protocol on behalf of the League is Assistant Secretary General Ambassador Ahmad Khatabi and Representing the Union is its Chief, Amr Al-Laithi.
This is to further coordinate joint work relating to issues of common interest starting with the Palestinian cause, stated Khatabi.
He also took note of recent Arab-Islamic summit resolutions relating to establishment of a media platform documenting the war crimes and genocide committed by Israeli occupation in Palestinian lands.
The protocol also aims to promote societal values and the Arab Islamic identity, as the protocol also sets out to defend the tolerant principles of Islam, combat Islamophobia, spread values of coexistence and renounce extremism.
On his part, Al-Laithi mentioned that this is the first agreement of its kind between the two bodies.
He also noted that the Union is the first global media union to open a branch in Ramallah and Palestinian lands.
Al-Laithi added that a workshop on protecting the Palestinian journalist or media personnel in face of imminent dangers is a priority.
He spoke of the increasing importance of communications and media in the modern world, requiring further skillsets and abilities.
The cooperation protocol is to cement relations between the league and the Organization of Islamic cooperation broadcasting union and includes training, exchange of expertise as well as holding sessions and workshops. (end) mfm.aai
