Fire on board merchant vessel under control -- Indian Navy

NEW DELHI, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- The Indian Navy said its firefighters deployed to the Gulf of Aden helped bring fire on board Merchant Vessel Marlin Luanda under control. The firefighting team comprising 10 personnel from guided missile destroyer of Indian Navy INS Visakhapatnam embarked on the Liberian flagged vessel in early hours of Saturday, according to a statement posted to the Navy Spokesperson's X account.
The vessel had 22 Indian and one Bangladeshi crew members onboard.
"After six hours of battling the fire along with the crew of the merchant vessel the firefighting team has successfully brought the fire under control. The team is currently monitoring the situation to rule out any possibility of re-ignition," the statement said.
INS Visakhapatnam had responded to a mayday call from Marlin Luanda and proceeded to provide emergency assistance. US and French warships were also part of the efforts in bringing the fire under control. "Indian Navy remains steadfast in her commitment towards safety of merchant shipping and seafarers," according to the statement. (end) atk.gb
