ICJ says won't reject genocide case filed against Israeli occupation

PARIS, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- The International Court of Justice (ICJ) stressed Friday that it will not throw out a genocide accusation against the occupying Israel entity.
In its interim ruling, the Hague-based court, chaired by Joan E. Donoghue, said that the Palestinian people appear to be a protected group under the genocide accord.
It added that it has power to rule on the case with some "urgent" measures, expressing concern about the continuing loss of life and human suffering in the Gaza Strip.
"Israel must ensure, with immediate effect, that its military forces do not commit any of the aforementioned acts," a reading of the ICJ decision said.
In addition, the court said that Israel must further take measures to prevent the incitement of genocide against Palestinian people.
The court indicated that the Israeli occupation must allow humanitarian aid to get into the besieged Gaza Strip.
It stressed the necessity of taking all immediate measures to improve humanitarian situation in the Strip.
Meanwhile, South Africa called for speeding up taking some procedures mainly an immediate halt of military operations, and ensuring the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes and allowing them to get all humanitarian aid.
Early this month, the court started hearing South Africa's appeal in the case it filed on December 29 against the occupying Israeli entity for committing genocide crimes against Palestinians in the Strip. (end) mao.hm
