Erdogan: We won't terminate economic relations with Iran

ANKARA, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday his country has not terminated and will not terminate its economic and trade ties with Iran due to sanctions.
Speaking at the Iran-Turkiye business forum, Erdogan said that opening new border gates with Iran is on the agenda, adding that measures are ongoing to set up border commercial centers to increase economic development.
He stressed that Turkiye and Iran - two regional powers - should enhance their cooperation for development and stability.
On the Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip, Erdogan said they are working to halt the massacres, reach a cease-fire and pave the way for permanent peace in the region.
Meanwhile, the two countries signed 10 agreements, in the presence of President Erdogan and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi.
This came after the eighth meeting of the Turkiye-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council.
The deals include operating Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) and Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC), and some memoranda of understanding on cooperation in free zones, media and communication cooperation, and scientific, industrial, and technological cooperation.
They also contain railway transportation, a letter of intent on cooperation for the year 2025 regarding mutual culture and a memo between the Turkish National Police Academy and Iran's Amin Police University In addition, some memoranda of understanding on the mutual recognition and exchange of national driver's licenses, and the appointment of armed flight safety officers between two countries as well as cooperation in the energy sector were inked between the two countries.
