Security personnel kill 7 militants in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- At least seven "terrorists" were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the Sambaza sector of Baluchistan's Zhob district near the Pakistani-Afghan border, the military said on Monday. According to Pakistan military's media wing, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants "remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces as well as killing of innocent civilians.
"Arms, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the terrorists." "A sanitization operation was carried out to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area," the ISPR said.
Security has been beefed up in Baluchistan and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan due to upcoming general elections in the country, due on February 8. Earlier this month, five soldiers of Pakistan army and three gunmen were killed in an attack targeting a security force vehicle in Buleda area of Baluchistan's Kech district. The attacks come at a time when the Pakistan military is carrying out operations against militants after the banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government last year.(end) sbk.nhq
