Clashes renew in Khartoum, ICRC evacuates 280 children to Madani

KHARTOUM, June 9 (KUNA) -- Clashes renewed Friday between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum and several other areas, while the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced evacuating 280 children from an orphanage to Madani city.
Violent clashes erupted, south of Khartoum, between the two parties to control a military complex, and sound of aircraft and ground anti-aircraft missiles were heard, west and central Khartoum and south of Omdurman, eyewitnesses told KUNA.
Meanwhile, the ICRC said in a statement that it took part in evacuating 280 children and 70 care providers from an affected-war orphanage house in Khartoum to a safe place in Wad Madani. According to a statement by the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), violence led to the displacement of about 1.2 million people from their houses, while about 600,000 others sought refuge in neighbouring countries.
Since April 15, Sudan has been witnessing clashes between the two parties in Khartoum and some areas that led to the killing and wounding of hundreds.
The intra-Sudanese talks failed to reach a final political agreement that include integrating the RSF into the army within a specific timeframe to pave the way for a civil government. (end) mam.hm
