EU deplores attack on diplomatic premises in Khartoum
BRUSSELS, June 9 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) Friday deplored all attacks, not just on diplomatic premises but also on diplomats themselves in Khartoum following a spate of recent attacks on a number of diplomatic premises of Gulf countries and the EU.
"The European Union deplores all attacks, not just on diplomatic premises but also on diplomats themselves, including the assault on the Ambassador of the European Union on 17 April," an EU spokesperson told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
"We recall the importance of full respect for the integrity of diplomatic staff and premises under the Vienna Convention. Its security is a primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law," said the spokesperson requesting anonymity.
"The EU condemns the sharp escalation of violence reported in Khartoum and elsewhere in the country after the expiration of the ceasefire agreed in Jeddah," added the spokesperson. (end) nk.mt
