BAGHDAD, May 30 (KUNA) -- Iraq's federal Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that a fifth-term extension of the Kurdistan region parliament in 2022 was unconstitutional.
In a session broadcasted on Iraqi national TV, the federal court's top judge, Jassim Mohammad said that all decisions issued by the regional parliament from the date of its term extension on Oct. 9, 2022, were therefore considered null and void.
He also pointed out that a one-year extension of the term of the Kurdistan Parliament contradicts Article 56 of the Iraqi Constitution. (end)
