KUWAIT, May 3 (KUNA) -- His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Information Prize recognized in its 16th edition, Wednesday, the American Internet expert Dr. Vinton Cerf, allocating the highest appreciation award (Medal of Information).
The honoring came in recognition of his achievements that contributed to serving humanity and his distinguished role in the development and spread of global Internet policy and standards, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Award, Sheikha Aida Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah said in a statement.
Dr. Cerf will be receiving the Medal of Informatics during the annual ceremony that will be held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace.
Sheikha Aida Al-Sabah praised Dr. Cerf's great contributions to the development of the Protocol of Data Transfer Control (Internet Protocol), one of the foundations for establishing and operating the Internet and designing its digital structure.
Vinton Gray Cerf, born on June 23 1943, is an American Internet pioneer and is recognized as one of "the fathers of the Internet", sharing this title with co-developer Bob Kahn.
He has received honorary degrees and awards that include the National Medal of Technology, the Turing Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Marconi Prize, and membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
The Informatics Medal is considered one of the important milestones in the history of the award and one of the most prominent points in its journey since 2001, during which it recorded its global presence as one of the largest Arab and international non-profit organizations.
