ISTANBUL, April 1 (KUNA) -- Turkish coast guards have rescued 5,153 seekers of illegal immigration in the Aegean Sea since tart of 2023, the official Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday.
The news agency, citing a statement by the coast guards, said the naval forces salvaged "the illegal migrants" between January 1 and March 31. It indicated that they had been forced by Greek authorities to head for the Turkish sea waters.
Anadolu news agency also reported that the authorities detained 2,232 people who attempted to immigrate from Turkey with illegal means.
There has been noticeable rise in numbers of peoples seeking immigration to Europe via the Turkish and Greek shores. (end)
