OIC calls for finding the right approach to combat violent extremism

RABAT, March 17 (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha underlined, Friday, the importance of finding the right approach to combat violent extremism as a universal phenomenon.
Taha made his remarks during the 49th ministerial session held in Nouakchott, the Capital city of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The OIC chief noted on the importance of analyzing the reasons behind violent extremism, and to scrutinize the many different reason behind it, which could be economic sidelining, having little or no education, wrong misconceptions in religions, and other factors.
He called for stronger commitment to fighting xenophobia, and to promoting the values of tolerance, understanding, inter-faith harmony, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among different religions.
The event was attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of OIC Member States, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Migel Angel Moratinos Ambassadors and Rep representatives of Observer States, international organizations, as well as entities and institutions operating under the OIC umbrella.
