KUWAIT, March 16 (KUNA) -- Weather forecasts, climate and water movement know no national or political borders, commented Deputy Director General of the Air Navigation Service Affairs at Kuwait Civil Aviation, Eng. Duaij Al-Otaibi, while calling for bolstering international cooperation on that matter.
On occasion of World Meteorological Day, Al-Otaibi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that celebrations carry the theme of the future of weather, climate and water.
This is the 150th anniversary of the establishment of World Meteorological Organization, mentioned Al-Otaibi saying that the celebrations highlight prior achievements, current developments and future possibilities.
He further illustrated "how weather forecasts, which we now take for granted, transitioned from radio technology to central computers and space technologies." This day, he continued, serves as a reminder of the changing climate as the organization was established at a time where pollution created by human and industrial activities, was in its initial stages.
Due to greenhouse gases the average earth temperature is one percent higher than it was 150 years ago, indicating a rapidly changing, more acidic and warm weather, as well as higher sea levels higher, stated Al-Otaibi.
Al-Otaibi underlined the need to adopt immediate measures decreasing emissions and insuring a sustainable prosperous future for future generations.
Moreover, Al-Otaibi conveyed good tidings of rapid scientific and technological advancements and greater accuracy predicting forecasts and lifesaving early warnings. (end) mf.aai
