Tunisia's Bouderbala elected parliament speaker

TUNIS, March 13 (KUNA) -- The Tunisian Assembly of the People's Representatives on Monday held a plenary session, the first such session after 18-month hiatus, where Ibrahim Bouderbala was elected as parliament speaker.
Bouderbala, former head of the Bar Association and a close ally of President Kais Saied, got 83 votes - a comfortable lead over his closest rival, Abdelssalem Dahmani who got 67 votes.
Anwar Marzouki and Saoussen Mabrouk were elected as deputy speakers in the session chaired by Saleh Al-Mubaraki - the eldest MP. One and a half years ago, President Saied imposed a freeze on the parliament and then dissolved it on March 30, 2022.
The new legislature, formed after the elections of mid-December 2022, is made up of 154 MPs while the dissolved one had 217 members. (end) ksj.gb
