Iraq, Saudi FM explore economic coop., regional stability

BAGHDAD, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his visiting Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan on Thursday discussed ways of promoting bilateral economic cooperation and supporting regional stability.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Hussein said Iraqi-Saudi relations have developed in various fields, along with bilateral coordination regarding oil polices.
The Iraqi minister pointed out great cooperation in the promotion of trade and investment exchange, saying his country looks forward to getting electricity from the Saudi power grind or the Gulf one.
He added that he had discussed with the Saudi foreign minister Saudi investments in Iraq, adding that Riyadh is willing to back Saudi companies seeking to invest in Iraq.
Hussein went on to say that they had also looked into challenges the region is facing in general, stressing concerted efforts to ease out tensions and resolve problems by dialogue and peaceful means.
For his part, the Saudi foreign minister said bilateral relations have recently developed under the direction of both countries' leaders, adding that they were working together to invest this development in promoting economic and developmental aspects.
He noted that both sides seek, through their joint coordination council, to carry out several joint projects involving their private sectors in order to capitalize on available economic opportunities. (end) ahh.mt
