ALGIERS, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States Conference (PUIC) Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, reiterated Sunday that the Palestinian issue would remain the central issue in the Islamic world.
The remarks were made in a speech to participants of the 17th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States Conference (PUIC), which will kicked off earlier in the Algerian capital, against the backdrop of the challenges and threats facing the Muslim world, in addition to the serious Zionist escalation against the Palestinian people and their sacred symbols.
Niass pointed out that the union places great hopes on the Algiers meeting, especially in this period when the Islamic world needs more understanding and harmony.
He expressed his great hope that "the Algerian presidency of this session will make strides towards achieving the goals for which the federation was established," adding that this date "will constitute a milestone and achieve the success we aspire to."
He added, "despite its human and strategic capabilities, most countries in the Islamic world live in turmoil due to conflicts, which has created the phenomenon of migration to escape these conditions and in search of a better life."
He also highlighted that "the Islamic world is qualified to win the bet on development and possession of technology because of its competencies and scholars in various fields that many major institutions in the world depend on," warning of the dangers of migration and the pests that affect the youth group, such as drugs and others.
Turning to the Palestinian issue, he stressed that it is still the central issue of Muslims because it is "the tragedy of a people who have been suffering from injustice for more than 70 years" at the hands of a usurping entity that is escalating its aggression against the Palestinian people, especially in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, "which requires us to stand with them and support them because that It is obligatory for all Islamic countries.
Niass also welcomed the recent UN resolutions regarding the Palestinian issue, especially the resolution that calls on the International Court of Justice to assess the effects of the ongoing violations against the right of the Palestinian people and their long-term occupation.
Niass believed that "Islamic countries should not remain idle, and UN resolutions should not remain a dead letter, just as it is unacceptable to continue with double standards." (end)
