ADEN, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- A cornerstone of a Kuwaiti-funded medical center was laid Sunday in the city of At Turbah in Yemni Taiz Governorate to benefit about 150,000 persons, said an official.
Speaking to KUNA in a statement, Raed Ibrahim, head of communication foundation for human development, said the project funded by Kuwait's Mercy International, the Association of Social Reform, includes construction and equipment of a medical clinic to provide health services and consultations as well as care to mothers, newborns and children.
The project is part of "Kuwait beside you" campaign that has been in Yemen for eight years.
The two-storey center includes an emergency department, and clinics for delivery, children, dentistry, x-rays and laboratories, and an operation room, he stated.
He thanked Kuwait, His Highness the Amir, the government and people for this continued support to Yemenis in all fields.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abdulrahman al-Sabri, a Ministry of Health official in Taiz, said At Turbah city is in dire need of boosting health services as it is hosting thousands of internally displaced persons.
He appreciated the Kuwaiti donors, the association and the State of Kuwait for their constant support to Yemenis, referring that the scheme will contribute to enhancing the infrastructure of the city's health sector. (end) sns.hm
