Arab League reiterates support for UNRWA

CAIRO, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Sunday emphasized its support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), pledging to continue such backing until the Palestinians' statehood aspirations come to fruition. The Cairo-based bloc will maintain a close rapport with the UN agency through further developing "joint work," it said in a statement, quoting the bloc's assistant secretary general for Palestinian affairs Saeed Abuali after talks joining the two bodies in the Egyptian capital. He went on to underline the necessity to ramp up financial aid for the cash-strapped UN agency, saying it was imperative to keep the services it provides the Palestinians afloat, particularly at this difficult juncture, added the official.
