Kuwait demands Iraq to withdraw three vessels after trespassing territorial waters

KUWAIT, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait delivered a memo to Iraq's Foreign Ministry on Thursday related to the trespassing of three Iraqi vessels into Kuwaiti territorial waters and its demand for these vessels to be immediately withdrawn.
Kuwait is keen to cooperate with Iraq in accordance with the UN-deposited Khor Abdullah agreement, which regulates maritime navigation in the bay between both countries, reads the memo, delivered by Kuwait's Ambassador to Iraq Tareq Al-Faraj to Iraqi Foreign Ministry Arab affairs department head Osama Al-Rifai.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry underlined the "need to respect the sovereignty of both countries and the State of Kuwait's categorical rejection of any breach of its sovereignty".
It reserved the right to respond in accordance with legal channels.
Kuwait also called on "our brothers in Iraq to cooperate in everything that would strengthen the bonds of brotherhood in a way that enhances the security of the two brotherly countries and the stability of the region." (end) msa.sd
