CAIRO, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- The Arab Parliament (AP) commended Australia decision earlier Tuesday to withdraw the 2018 recognition of the West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In a statement, the parliament said the new move is consistent with the international law and the international legitimacy's resolutions aiming to enhance the opportunities of peace and achieves stability and security in the region as well as stresses the establishment of the independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital.
Austria also stressed its commitment to a two-state solution and rejection of any attempts aiming to undermine this solution.
The AP called on the Australian government to recognize Palestine's state and Jerusalem as its capital, in a stance similar to its wise move, according to the statement.
It also called on the countries recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel to follow Australia's stance, and respect the international law and the international legitimacy's resolutions.
In a news statement earlier in the day, Australia's foreign minister Penny Wong stressed the necessity of solving the Palestinian cause within the framework of peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis. (end)
