EU condemns sentencing of Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar

BRUSSELS, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The European Union Thursday condemned an additional three years imprisonment against detained State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi by a military court In Myanmar earlier today.
"Her trials are purely politically motivated," said EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Nabila Massrali, in a statement tonight.
Three former ministers in her government were also sentenced: two former ministers of planning and finance, Kyaw Win and Soe Win, and deputy minister Set Aung.
Aung San Suu Kyi now faces 23 years in prison, including three years of hard labour, آ“while still facing further bogus charges, the true objective of which is entirely clear,آ” she said.
The EU statement reiterated its urgent call for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners as well as all those arbitrarily detained since the coup in Myanmar. (end) nk
