GCC chief condemns Iranian attacks in Kurdistan

RIYADH, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, condemned the Iranian attacks on Kurdistan region, north Iraq, as a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and a threat to regional security and stability. During his meeting with Iraq Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Abdul-Sattar Al-Janabi, at the GCC Secretariat in Riyadh, Al-Hajraf affirmed rejection of everything that would jeopardize Iraq's sovereignty, security and stability.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the bonds of cooperation between the GCC and Iraq to serve common interests, according to a GCC Secretariat.
The discussion covered GCC-Iraq Electricity Interconnection Program and the latest developments in the regional situation and issues of common interest.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced earlier today that it had summoned Iran's ambassador in Baghdad to hand him a strongly worded protest note against the backdrop of the bombing operations carried out by Tehran in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in the north of the country.
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq also announced that the death toll from the Iranian attack with missiles and drones on many areas of the region has risen to 71 dead and wounded, including women and children. The Anti-Terrorism Directorate of the region said in a statement that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched its attack on the Kurdistan region of Iraq in four stages, killing 13 people, including a pregnant woman, and wounding 58 people, most of them civilians, including children under the age of ten, students, teachers, and journalists.
