IsDB supports food security, tourism in Jordan

AMMAN, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) inked along with Jordanian government two loan agreements worth USD 210 million aiming to promote food security and tourism sector in Jordan.
Signing the documents were IsDB President Mohammad Suleiman Al-Jasser and Jordanian Minister of Planning Nasser Al-Sharida in attendance of Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Jordanian Premiership reported.
The first agreement, worth USD 200 million, supports food security in the Hashemite Kingdom via boosting Jordan's strategic commodity reserves of wheat and barley, increasing storage spaces and strengthening organization so that it is capable of facing future fluctuations in wheat prices.
The second agreement, worth USD 10 million, which also includes a grant of USD 50,000 it is designated for tourism sector, as it helps small and medium enterprises overcome pandemic ramifications and regain their ability to resume activity.
The Prime Minister spoke of law regulating investment environment, approved by the parliament, saying that it motivates investors, facilitates the process, curbs bureaucracy and grants waivers especially to those who provide job opportunities for Jordanians.
Head of IsDB underscored bank's keenness on furthering development projects in Jordan, and stated that the bank looks forward to more collaboration in various fields.
According to the statement, total of IsDB interventions in Jordan, until 2022, reached USD 2.7 billion. (end) ab.aai
