Iraqi foreign ministry summons Iranian ambassador over attacks on Kurdistan

BAGHDAD, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned the Iranian ambassador to Iraq Mohammad Kazim and handed him a memorandum protesting the latest development in Kurdistan Region.
In a statement, the ministry said that Head of Neighboring States Department in the ministry Ihsan Al-Awwadi handed over a letter to the Iranian Ambassador in which the Iraqi government strongly condemned the spate of rocket and drone attacks carried out by Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Iraq's Kurdistan Region.
The raids that caused panic to residents, deaths and injuries, and infrastructure damage is a continuation of the Iranian forces' attacks on Iraq's sovereignty and its lands that cannot be tolerated, according to the statement.
The ministry expressed total rejection of such acts, demanded respect for Iraq's sovereignty and commitment to international covenants, and to stay away from military action in addressing security challenges.(end) aah.nhq
