Russian-EU gas pipeline leaks in "no one's interest" - Blinken

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- Leaks affecting two pipelines in the Baltic Sea transporting Russian gas to Germany, thought to have been caused by an act of sabotage, are in "no one's interest," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
"The leaks are under investigation. There are initial reports indicating that this may be the result of an attack or some kind of sabotage. But these are initial reports, and we haven't confirmed that yet," the secretary told reporters after meeting his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar.
Since then, Metter Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, who discovered the leaks to Nord Stream 1 and 2 overnight, has labelled the incidents "deliberate actions." "If it is confirmed, that's clearly in no one's interest," Blinken underlined.
However, the secretary emphasised the leaks "will not have a significant impact on Europe's energy resilience." Binken noted to an "oil price cap" aimed at keeping Russian oil at a "steep discount" and denying Moscow "excess revenues." The US has also become the "largest" liquified natural gas exporter to the European Union, Blinken revealed, and the largest overall LNG exporter this year.
On the long term, the US remains steadfast in its support for a reduction of reliance on fossil fuels, the secretary added. (end) rsr.sd
