Sudan floods kill 79 people, damage 36,000 houses

KHARTOUM, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Sudan on Thursday estimated that the recent floods that swept large swathes of the country had claimed the lives of 79 people and 30 injured, according to Sudan's civil defense council statement.
The council stated that the floods had also razed to the ground 15,005 houses and partially destroyed 21,784 others, including damages to 102 public facilities, 1,479 plantation areas, and 341 farms and the slaughter of 117 livestock.
According to UN report, around 314,500 people are devastated in Sudan during the rainy season of 2021. (end) mam.mb
