Germany expects to have floating LNG terminals next year - minister

BERLIN, Aug 16 (KUNA) -- Germany is optimistic that it would see the completion of floating liquefied gas terminals (LNG) by early next year, its economy minister said on Tuesday, citing the measure as a bid to curb reliance on Russian energy. This is an effort "to make ourselves independent and give Germany a robust and resilient energy infrastructure," Robert Habeck told a press conference after Berlin signed a deal with local gas importers to supply the facilities.
He underlined that the initiative also aims to make Germany "less susceptible to blackmail from Russia," saying he expected the LNG terminals to be up and running by the start of next year. (end) anj.nam
