Flash floods claim 10 more lives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13 (KUNA) - At least 10 more people were killed and several others received injuries in rain related incidents and flash floods in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province and southern Karachi city, said reports on Saturday.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Balochistan province, six people were killed during flash floods in Qilla Abdullah district, taking the total number of rain-related deaths in the province from June 1 to 188.
Rainfall was reported in Lasbela, Pishin, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Ziarat, Harnai, Duki, Sanjavi, Loralai, Fort Minro, Barkhan, Zhob and Sherani areas of Balochistan in the last 24 hours.
Hundreds of people were left homeless in several districts of the province as heavy rains continued to lash parts of Balochistan.
Lasbela Deputy Commissioner Murad Kasi told media that the rivers and canals in Windar and Othal areas had flooded due to non-stop rain in the last few days and washed away bridges.
Meanwhile, four people were killed in rain related incidents in southern Karachi city. Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed told media that three of the victims were electrocuted, while the fourth drowned in Lyari River.
Meanwhile the provincial government has declared 145 villages in the province as calamity affected areas in the districts of Kambar-Shahdadkot, Matiari, Thatta, Dadu, Badin, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze and Khairpur. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over human and financial losses caused by recent flash floods.
Seeking an immediate report over affected areas, the Prime Minister directed National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities to expedite rescue and relief operations in the flood-hit areas. (end) sbk.ibi
