Iraq Kurdish party urges more dialogue to end political deadlock

IRBIL, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Iraq's Kurdish leaders called on the country's political parties to engage in more constructive dialogue in a bid to end a prolonged stalemate, including agreeing to hold early elections as demanded by influential cleric Moqtada Al-Sadr.
Such a measure has become necessary to "save Iraq from the current deadlock," the Kurdistan Democratic Party said in a statement, underlining the bloc's grave concern over the political status quo.
Iraq plunged into political upheaval after an October 2021 election won by Al-Sadr's parliamentary bloc, while the country's lawmakers had failed to elect a new president and prime minister in due course. (end) sbr.nam
