Floods destroy 3,000+ houses - N. Sudan

KHARTOUM, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Heavy rainfall and flooding on the River Nile, Northern Sudan during the past days have destroyed more than 3,000 houses.
According to Sudan's news agency, the River Nile State emergency room announced that 2,538 houses have been destroyed while 546 were partially damaged.
Damages were mainly focused in the Berber and Al-Matma regions, as specialized groups are tasked to deal with the circumstances of the flooding, in addition to defense force operations to extract over flown water, while also operating to distribute aid in the localities.
The Meteorological Authority's forecasting revealed satellite-photos of today (5:30pm), showing cumulus clouds (indicating fair weather) over eastern and central Sudan.
But also cautioned of forecasts showing varying amounts of heavy rainfall on those areas, issuing an emergency warning in its capital Khartoum for citizens to be alert. (end) mam.aq
