Baghdad witnesses massive protests of Sadrists, coordination framework

BAGHDAD, Aug 12 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, saw Friday two massive demonstrations of Al Sadr movement and its rival - the coordination framework - in a scene that embodies the great political differences between the two sides since November's parliamentary polls.
The supporters of Al Sadr movement continued their sit-in inside the Green Zone in the capital in which the foreign diplomatic missions and government HQs locate, Iraq news agency said.
During their demonstrations in Baghdad and some other provinces, the Sadrists called for dissolving the parliament, holding early elections and combating corruption.
However, the coordination framework staged a demonstration at the entrance of the southern Green Zone, in an attempt to defend the State, its legitimacy and institutions, read an earlier statement by the coordination framework.
The coordination framework's protesters announced an open sit-in near the Green Zone until their demands are met, topped with forming a new Iraqi government. (end) ahh.ams.hm
