WASHINGTON, Aug 11 (KUNA) -- Ohio Highway State Patrol said Thursday the armed man who attempted to breach the FBI's Visitor Screening Facility (VSF) in Cincinnati Field Office was shot and killed after law enforcement standoff.
"After negotiations failed, law enforcement officers tried to take suspect into custody, but the suspect raised a gun at authorities and was fatally shot," CNN quoted spokesman with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Nathan Dennis as saying.
Three federal law enforcement sources identified the suspect as Ricky Shiffer, according to the CNN report.
Meanwhile, FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement that "unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others."
"Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans," he stressed.
He added "every day I see the men and women of the FBI doing their jobs professionally and with rigor, objectivity, and a fierce commitment to our mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. I am proud to serve alongside them." (end)
