Russia underlines the need for Palestinian-Israeli talks

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- The Russian Federation stressed on Wednesday the necessity of holding Palestinian-Israeli talks on final status issues based on international resolutions.
The spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said in a statement that the recent events in the Palestinian territories unequivocally confirm the need to expedite constructive Palestinian-Israeli talks on the issued by the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The statement expressed deep concern about the wave of violence that swept the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, referring to the Israeli forces storming the city of Nablus last Tuesday, killing several Palestinians, including children, and wounding more than 70 others.
The statement called on the concerned parties to exercise restraint and not to take any steps that would undermine the ceasefire agreement reached between the Israelis and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on the seventh of this month. (end) as.tb.ara
