Biden administration declares monkeypox "public health emergency"

WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- The Biden administration will provide funding and easier access to vaccines and treatment for monkeypox after declaring the virus a "public health emergency" as cases nationwide reached 6,600 on Thursday.
The numbers grew from under 5,000 cases reported last week, Xavier Becerra, Health Secretary said.
"We're prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus," added the secretary.
"We urge every American to take monkeypox seriously and to take responsibility to help us tackle this virus." (end) asj.sd
