Arab League welcomes extended truce in Yemen for two additional months

CAIRO, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- The Arab League welcomed on Wednesday, the decision of the UN envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to extend armistice for two additional months until 2nd of next October.
In a press statement, the Arab League said that the truce will allow work to alleviate the difficult humanitarian conditions suffered by Yemenis throughout the country, and open the way for the start of a serious political process to end the crisis.
"The Yemeni people have suffered from war and the difficult humanitarian crisis for years, the extended cease-fire represents good news for millions of the Yemeni people,' the statement added.
It pointed out the importance of the parties' commitment to the armistice terms in the next phase, and to strengthen the work of the UN envoy to reach an extended and sustainable armistice agreement.
The Arab League stressed that the continuation of the truce would help in addressing the Yemeni crisis in a comprehensive manner, to bring peace to this country, whose people have suffered a lot. (end) mfm.asm.nhq
