Arab Parliament welcomes UN envoy's decision to extend truce in Yemen

CAIRO, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- The Arab Parliament welcomed on Wednesday, the decision of the UN envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to renew armistice for two additional months after approval of the Yemeni government.
In a press statement, the Arab Parliament pointed out that the decision includes the commitment of all parties involved to intensify negotiations to reach an extended cease-fire to achieve progress in the political process, which would lead to ending the crisis in Yemen and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The decision would contribute to reaching a comprehensive settlement of the Yemeni crisis and supporting initiatives for a political solution based on relevant UNSC resolutions, the Gulf initiative and the national dialogue, in a manner that preserves Yemen's unity, independence, security, stability and prosperity of the Yemeni people.
The Arab Parliament praised the efforts of the Saudi-led Arab coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen and all parties in extending the armistice, which would open the way to ending the war and preserving the security and stability of the region. (end) mfm.nhq
