Palestinian PM calls on US Congress to recognize Palestinian State

RAMALLAH, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called Tuesday on US Congress to recognize Palestine as a state, and to help revive the two-state solution and stop the Israeli unilateral measures.
The Prime Minister's Office issued a statement following a meeting between Shtayyeh and visiting US Congress delegates.
The premier added, "if the current US Administration believes in the two-state solution under the 1967 borders, it is sensible to recognize Palestine as a state, and vote them in for a UN seat.
The statement added the delegates were reviewed the latest developments, specifically Israel's piracy of Palestinian funds, escalation of violations against Palestinian people.
Shtayyeh was very keen on pressuring Israel to respect and adhere to signed agreements, and allow for Palestinians in Jerusalem to partake in the general elections and the reopening of the US consulate in Jerusalem. (end) nq.rj.aq
