WASHINGTON, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that her visit to Taiwan honors America's unwavering commitment to supporting "Taiwan's vibrant Democracy."
"Our visit is part of our broader trip to the Indo-Pacific - including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan - focused on mutual security, economic partnership and democratic governance," Pelosi said in a statement Tuesday.
Pelosi also noted that the discussions with Taiwan's leadership will focus on reaffirming US support for its partner and on promoting shared interests, including advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Pelosi and Members of a Congressional Delegation arrived in Taiwan earlier today. Pelosi's trip to Taiwan was the first in 25 years by a US House speaker. (end)
