Malaysia urges US to play "bigger role" in resolving Myanmar crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- Malaysia on Tuesday called on the US to play a "bigger role" in resolving the crisis in Myanmar, including properly addressing the plight of the country's Rohingya Muslim minority.
Appreciating the more than USD 200 million worth of military aid from Washington, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri told visiting US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi that bilateral ties have made notable progress over the years.
The US official underlined the need for greater bilateral cooperation to face common challenges, including climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to efforts aiming to protect regional security and stability.
Pelosi's stop in Kuala Lumpur is part of a wider tour of four Asian countries as part of broader effort by Washington to propel bilateral relations to greater levels. (end) aab.nam
