UK official warns of protracted political deal in Sudan

KHARTOUM, July 28 (KUNA) -- Director of East and Central African Affairs at the British Foreign Office Simon Mustard on Thursday warned that failure to reach a political agreement on a civilian government in Sudan would worsen the situation in this Arab country.
In a press statement issued by the UK Embassy in Khartoum, Mustard said the sole way for the country to recover is to create a credible and inclusive civilian-led government.
The British government has allocated 7.4 pounds (around USD 9 million) in emergency assistance to help women and children through the World Food Program (WFP), according to the statement.
During his two-day visit to Khartoum, the UK official restated his country's commitment to backing Sudanese efforts to implement a civilian-led democratic transition. (end) mam.mt
