Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, July 28 (KUNA) --

1939 -- State of Kuwait's Legislative Council requested the Municipal Council to provide five boats to bring fresh water from Shatt Al-Arab river. The government will purchase the water and store it in tanks. Ships were allowed to sell excess water but within regulated pricing.
1955 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed an order to stop the government from purchasing land lots not included in the population map.
1968 -- Kuwait Tennis, Table Tennis and Squash Association was established.
1976 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a law to organize Hajj Missions.
2008 -- Thousands of workers from Bangladesh living in Mahboulah, Abu Halifa and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh staged riots demanding wage raise and protesting against sponsors' failure to pay their salaries. Protesters held hostages officials from companies employing them and destroyed vehicles in the areas. Riot police intervened to restore order.
2009 -- Kuwait national team won the GCC Judo Championship, bagging 16 gold, six silver and two bronze medals.
2015 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research's Energy and Building Research Center succeeded in designing a Nano-size lithium-ion battery. The project was co-funded by Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
2020 -- Kuwait government departments resumed work at 50-percent capacity as part of gradual return to normal life amidst coronavirus pandemic. (end) bs
