EU ministers to discuss energy situation in Europe

BRUSSELS, July 25 (KUNA) -- European Union energy ministers will hold an extraordinary meeting in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the energy situation in Europe in the context of "Russia's war against Ukraine." The ministers will be invited to reach a political agreement on a proposal for a regulation on coordinated demand reduction measures for gas, EU sources told journalists in Brussels on Monday.
The European Commission on 20 July presented an European gas demand reduction plan which sets a voluntary target for all EU member states to reduce gas demand by 15% between 1 August 2022 and 31 March 2023.
After the meeting, EU ministers will have an informal lunch with Ukrainian energy minister German Galushchenko to discuss the EU's energy cooperation with Ukraine, said the sources speaking on condition of anonymity. (end) nk.gb
