Palestine PM urges halt to Israeli abuse in occupied territories

RAMALLAH, July 25 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Monday urged the international community to apply pressures on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop their racial abuse in the occupied Palestinian territories.
"The latest of such crimes took place in the West Bank city of Nablus, where two young men were martyred and several others were injured," the Palestinian News and Information Agency WAFA quoted him as saying during a cabinet meeting.
"The continuation of such barbaric crimes would have serious consequences," Shtayyeh cautioned.
He welcomed the adoption by a majority of two resolutions by the United Nations Economic and Social Council on the economic and social consequences of the occupation on Palestinian land, including East Jerusalem, and the situation of providing assistance to Palestinian women.
It pointed out that the first resolution calls for opening the border crossings and lifting the severe restrictions imposed on the Palestinian people, while the second resolution stresses the protection of civilian population in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Regarding the Al-Karama land crossing with Jordan, which is witnessing unprecedented overcrowding, Shtayyeh stated "We hold the occupation authorities full responsibility for the restrictions and disruptions to the travelers".
He called on the occupation authorities to open Al-Quds Airport, which is located in Qalandia area, and remove obstacles to the people and goods to and from Palestine. (end) nq.gaa
